I believe in the beauty of connections. The connection between ourselves, others and our environment. I believe the importance of reminding that we are connected to it all. What we do to our surroundings comes back to us, and what we do to ourselves have external reactions.
Throughout life, I have experienced my own process and the importance of dealing with balancing mental and physical health and the world around me. I have travelled extensively, taken myself out of my comfort zone and into the unknown. Understanding feelings and learnings of how to deal with anxiety, excitement and stillness of the uncertainty. I have found depth in the importance of connection; we are multi layered- multi faceted – a multi perspective entity in a fluid environment, amongst each other.
My abstract paintings take great inspiration from being in a meditative state within our natural environment. I use the stillness of my surroundings to create space whilst I reflect on emotions awakened by energetic relationships. Most of my subjects reflect a combination of evoked emotions from environments or situations. My work is unique because my practice is very personal. It also allows me to combine my design industry knowledge with my intuition. I strongly believe in the beauty of connections and balance, through aesthetics and thought provoking philosophies.
My style is a form of expression, I personally feel that is an extension of my inner self. Channelling my different layers of self, creating visual imagery through both colour and form. Creating linear brushstrokes and blending colours allows me to successfully emulate my emotions and different layers of feelings. I carefully consider how I can change moods, perspectives and take risks by either adding or subtracting from my work whilst achieving light, soft transient layers and depth. I have also found great inspiration in the work of others before me including Frida Kahlo, Claude Monet and more recently, Yayoi Kusama.
I enjoy the process of creating art the most. Collating concepts, considering colours and forms that I am drawn to as well as creating mood boards, before finally going for it. I primarily use high quality polymer paints on canvas concentrating on achieving aesthetic balance of both colour, shape and form. I find black and white also gives depth to my colour palette. I purposely use these as my elixirs to create tints and shades, allowing colours to transition. Sometimes, physical elements such as digital, found objects, textiles and photographs also provide strong and contrasting characteristics in my compositions. For as much as there is softness, I like taking risks and contrast allows me to achieve that. Personally, I find the balance between stillness and shifting intriguing.
